If Influence Film grantee MEET THE PATELS hasn’t yet shown up on your radar it’s sure to do so soon.

This little sleeper of a film is winning over audiences – and winning audience awards – at a fast-growing number of film festivals. A tale of love and culture – and how the two can come into conflict – MEET THE PATELS has audiences and critics alike singing its praises.

Co-Director Geeta Patel brings her warm, witty self to the We Love Docsinterview series On Their Way, ruminating on, amongst other things … Cocoa Puffs? Yes, Cocoa Puffs.

How do you get to work each day?

Barefoot. I work from home.

What project are you currently working on?

The documentary MEET THE PATELS. And my next film MOUSE, a crazy narrative film produced by Grant Hill (MATRIX/TREE OF LIFE)

When do you feel most creative?

When I’m not afraid.

What is your favourite way to relax?

Cocoa Puffs.

What are your current obesessions in any of the following areas?

Food/Drink:

Cocoa Puffs. And Almond Milk. An odd pairing, but you see I really shouldn’t be eating Coco Puffs… And the Almond Milk is where I’m under control. Who bought these Cocoa Puffs??

Music:

Dolly Parton makes me smile. Michael Jackson’s ”Man in the Mirror” has an hilarious effect on me.

Travel:

I love villages.

Gadgets:

Food processors are cool.

Reading or watching:

Right now, I’m watching ”The Story of Film”, by Mark Cousins. I’m dying to watch Lav Diaz’s new film… but it’s almost impossible to find his films because they are so long! His new film is 5 hours long. As far as reading, I just read the newspaper…

As a teenager I was completely into:

Overthrowing the school principal. Wow, I just remembered that.

In another life I would be:

A bird!

Writer/director Geeta Patel made her directorial debut with the documentary war thriller, PROJECT KASHMIR, which led to directing fellowships at Sundance and Tribeca. Geeta started as a writer’s assistant in TV, and then served as Associate Screenwriter for Universal Pictures, ABC, NBC, and Twentieth Century Fox on titles that include THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and BLUE CRUSH. A graduate in Comparative Area Studies from Duke, Geeta was recently Visiting Artist in Belarus and Turkey as one of 29 filmmakers chosen for President Obama’s film delegation.
